Ray's Poem

by: Marie-Andrée

The city is so dark, but I chose the light.
I ran from wrong and succumbed to right.
I chose to do good and to fight for the Law.
Not forgetting the evil the child I was saw.

The years passed and the world grew dark.
Of this mounting darkness, I wanted no part.
So many hopes dead, so many loves lost.
For this light I seek, such a terrible cost.

One angry bullet took her away from me.
Locking my heart in chains never to be free.
That sweet, sweet angel of the night.
Born of darkness but destined for light.

So many words unspoken, so much to say.
To a best friend born so very far away.
"Forgive me, brother, for leaving you.
"For all the times I have been less than true."

Breaking the heart of my truest friend.
Never able to tell him that this is not the end.
I left him behind, but not without thought.
It was his goodness that always I sought.

The family I love, I left it for hell.
For the darkness in which I would dwell.
For the darkness of those I hunt.
For this darkness every day I confront.

To a new, terrifying existence I succumb.
Forgetting myself, becoming so numb.
I wish to return home one day a better man.
One who chooses to live as best as he can.

I seek not this darkness, but only the light.
I search not for the wrong, but for the right.
Memories of a Mountie my guide in the night.
Memories of his goodness easing my plight.
