Ottheinrich Bibel

The Ottheinrich Bibel is named for the man who acquired it about 1530 for his library. It was begun about A.D. 1425-1430; Ottheinrich had Matthias Gerung complete it. This illuminated (i.e., illustrated and with decorative alphabet) manuscript is often considered some of the most artistic ever done. Albrecht Durer

Durer, 1471-1528, was a German painter and engraver who, typical of Renaissance style, conducted experiments and wrote about proportion and mathematical ideals. Much of his work is Biblical, but he also did portraits, some of the first landscapes, and animal pictures.

Gustave Dore

Dore, 1832-1883, was primarily an engraver (illustrator) but also engaged in sculpture. His work illustrated a wide variety of literary works, one of which was an 1866 Bible.
