Privacy News

We’ve become aware of a new law in California that was proposed out of an abundance of caution to protect children, California’s AB 2273, the Age-Appropriate Design Act via information available at Dreamwidth. If you haven’t heard about it, please read up about it – or at least Denise‘s writeup in Dreamwidth News.

Squidge.org values your privacy, and trust that users respect the age declaration that is in place in various Squidge.org properties is being used appropriately. California’s new law would require us, like Dreamwidth, to violate your privacy and use an intrusive age verification system that we just cannot do. It would be easier to just shut down all Squidge.org properties than try and implement such a system.

We’ll continue to follow this, and hope that this law is overturned based on privacy issues. Please be aware and follow official sources for more information.
