He was sitting alone on a bench, a man with long hair and a long coat, removed from the festivities. Everyone on the fairgrounds were cheerful, enjoying the sunny afternoon, voices of laughing children all around him, but no one was within a radius of a few yards from his bench. As if a shadow had been cast around it.

A red haired boy walked up to him then, smiled innocently, fearlessly.

"Don't be sad," he grinned. The man on the bench just stared at the boy's weird, yellow glowing eyes.

The boy frowned, and then disappeared, nothing in his wake but dust and slowly settling leaves. The man wondered if he had imagined the whole thing, if it had been an illusion.

But then the boy was back, holding a lollipop up to the man, offering it with the same pure, child-like grin.

The man took it and thanked him, his own tears clearing and mingling with a soft smile.
