Summary:   Ethan introduces Rupert to new friends, and a new game.

"Rupert sat in a chair by the window and read Robin Hood to himself.
He watched a group of boys playing in a corner and wished he could join them,
but he didn't know what to say, or how to introduce himself.
The boys kept looking at him and whispering.  Finally,
a skinny, dark haired kid got up from the floor and waddled over to Rupert.
He was holding two plastic dolls in his hands.

"Wanna play Barbies?" the boy asked.
He held out a brown haired doll.  The doll had thick hair, and a sparkly dress.
And she had big bumps on her chest, kind of like Rupert's mum, only larger.

Rupert looked down at his book.
 "Don't know how," he whispered.
"I'll show you!" the boy beamed at him and pulled his hand. " C'mon!"

Rupert found himself sitting on the floor next to a huge pink plastic dollhouse.  The other two boys blinked at him.  One had light brown hair and a sour expression.
The other was a blond with his hair tied back in a ribbon.
Rupert had never seen a boy with a hair ribbon before.

"M  Ethan, and dis is Lucius, and Lionel"
 "Hi"
Ethan lifted his dark haired doll's rubber arm and waved it in Rupert's direction.
"What's up, girlfriend?" he said.
Lionel walked his red haired doll over to Rupert's brown haired one.
Lionel's doll wore a pinstriped suit and a floppy hat.
"Ith about time you showed up," he made his doll sneer.
Ethan marched his doll over.  "Hey, you leave her alone," he said. "You cheap tramp."
Rupert just sat there, surrounded by a sea of strange conversation.
He'd never been allowed to play this type of game before.

Lucius sauntered his blonde doll past them, stopping to have her give the other girls a mean look.
"Are those shoes Prada?" his doll asked Rupert's doll.
Ethan looked at Rupert, his big dark eyes shined encouragingly. He nodded eagerly.
"Yes, they are," Rupert responded. He hoped Ethan was pleased with his effort to join in.
"I bought them in America, do you like them?"
"Those are just darling!" Ethan exclaimed, wagging his doll's head.
"OOh, girls!" said Lucius, "Ken and Steve are coming over."
 All the girl dolls squealed.
“Ken is a boy doll, “Ethan explained. “He’s even got boy parts.”
Lucius sniggered.
“He’s tho cute,“ said Ethan.  He giggled, as if he were sharing a special secret.  Rupert thought
privately that Ethan was just as handsome but he didn’t know where the thought had come from, or how to put it into words.
Ethan produced the Ken doll, who was clad in a pair of tight red swimming trunks.
“Look at his musthles,” Lionel murmured in a worshipful way.
“Hey, Barbie,  want to ride in my Camaro?” Ethan asked Lucius’ doll.
“You bet!”
“You can come too, Francie, “ Ethan said to Rupert.
Rupert gingerly placed his doll in the front seat of the car.  Ethan moved Ken’s arm so that it was draped over “Francie’s” shoulder.  He put Teresa, (the dark haired Barbie) and the regular blond Barbie in the back seat.
“Now let’s drive them off the top of the stairs!” He announced happily.

When it was time to go home, Ethan let Rupert keep the Teresa doll.  Rupert would take her to bed at night, and stroke her hair and be reminded of his friend.
