"I'll give you two cookies per soldier, but that's my last offer."

Lionel Luthor, five years old and very businesslike, intent on creating an army of those little plastic action figures.

Lex Luthor, four years old and equally professional, refuses.

There's a long pause of silence during which Lionel munches on one of his cookies and tries to make it appeal to Lex.

"I'll tell you what," he realises he needs a new tactic, "I give you one cookie per soldier, and they'll be half mine and half yours. But you take them to war against the Barbies with me. And against the bears, if necessary."

Lex considers the offer on the table. Then he reaches for Lionel's cookie bag.

They sign their deal over two glasses of milk.
