Death Row
by Patt Paulos-Darrow
Jim and Blair had to go visit him if only for the families of the dead.
They felt the unease of everyone, the feeling of dread.
They are heading off to see him, it is almost time.
Why did this boy have to commit this terrible crime?
The boy sits in his cell, waiting to hear if he is going to die.
He is trying very hard to stay strong, and not to cry.
He made a big mistake that will cost him his life.
He will never find out what it is like to have children and wife.
In that one split second, he chose the wrong thing.
By killing for the gangs, only death does it bring.
Not just the death of the victim who he did not even know.
But, now it will be his turn to stand up and go.
No sense in fighting it, he deserves what they give him.
This is what happens when your life seems to dim.
You don't know what you are doing, can't even guess.
Kill for a gang, and to kill for no reason, no less.
Do you think they were impressed with what you did for them?
May God forgive you, your sins, and take you , Amen.
