The Harm To Our Children
by Patt Paulos-Darrow
The shot rings out and everyone screams and begins to run.
Someone's life is going to end, and it all started out as fun.
No one is laughing now, they are begging for their lives.
A terrible way to live, don't know how these children can survive.
It doesn't matter where you live or who you seem to know.
They shoot off their guns and don't care where it goes.
They don't seem to care about much of anything these days.
Even if they are caught, there isn't a price large enough to pay.
What has happened to these children's hopes and dreams?
To end up on the street and listen to nothing but screams.
Where will they go now? Who will be next to die?
Just thinking about it, makes the guys want to cry.
Detective Ellison and Detective Sandburg will see plenty.
And to think that these kids are all under twenty.
The guys have each other, to hold and to lean on.
But most of these kids don't have anyone, everyone is gone.
