Chakotay glanced at the chrono and sighed.
Lt. Paris was late, uncharacteristically late. Ever since that damned scheme to
flush out the spy Paris had been on his best behavior. Especially around
Chakotay. It was almost like he was trying to make up for acting like such a
jerk before.
But, half an hour later Paris still hadn't
shown up and Batehart was looking exhausted. Damn the man, did he think all his
good behavior for the past few weeks would earn him a reprieve? Glancing back
at Harry, Chakotay just received yet another worried look in return and a
shrug. At least if Harry didn't know anything, Tom couldn't have planned this.
"Computer what is the location of Lt.
Tom Paris." The Commander asked the computer finally tried of waiting.
"Lt. Tom Paris is not on board
Voyager."
"*WHAT*?" Chakotay roared.
"When did he leave?" The computer primly told him that Paris had left
a little over an hour earlier by unknown means. Quickly calling someone to
relieve the wary pilot, Chakotay and Tuvok left the Bridge to investigate.
Tuvok instantly headed for his office, to check the security logs no doubt,
leaving Chakotay to try and figure out just where the hell Tom could have
gotten to.
"Computer." he asked in the
turbolift. "What was the last location of Lt. Paris before he left?"
"Lt. Paris was in his quarters."
Okay, with any luck, this would be just some
practical joke. Chakotay thought as he stormed down the corridor to Paris's
quarters. Tom was, after all, perfectly capable of breaking into the computer,
he'd done it before on numerous occasions. He wasn't sure *why* Tom would have
gone through all the trouble of doing something like that but it seemed
perfectly reasonable. It wasn't likely Tom could have just disappeared without
anyone on the ship realizing this. He'd check Tom's quarters before he sounded
the alarm and hopefully Tom would be there avoiding duty.
When her arrived at the quarters Chakotay
didn't bother with the door chime, if Tom was there he certainly wasn't going
to answer. So instead, he just overrode the door lock. Walking into the
brightly lit room Chakotay groaned. There was a cup of now cold coffee spilled
on the carpet. And Tom's duty PADDs were scattered there too. Checking the
replicator he had his suspicions confirmed the last thing Tom had ordered was a
cup of coffee nearly and hour and a half ago now.
"Computer who's been in these quarters
in the last twelve hours? In order." Chakotay asked, bending down to pick
up the PADDs. Hmm... Tom's report had been finished a day early.
"Lt. Tom Paris, Ensign Harry Kim, Lt.
B'Elanna Torres, two unknown guests and Commander Chakotay." The computer
answered his query.
"Unknown? What time?" This was
seriously starting to bother him. It had defiantly moved beyond the realm of
practical jokes now and was coming dangerously close to a serious threat to the
ship. And, even worse, it looked like they had Tom Paris with them now, whoever
they were. Chakotay didn't wait for the computer's reply he knew it would be
within the last two hours. He raised his hand to his comm badge intending to
call for a security alert.
Before Chakotay's hand touched the badge his
arm was grabbed and pulled back, pulling most of his body along with it. He
heard the hiss of a hypo spray as he fell into it first, then colliding heavily
with the ground. Struggling to stay conscious, Chakotay could feel himself
being dragged backwards but fell into a drug-induced sleep soon after.
*******************************************************************************
When he came to he found himself lying on a
bed in a dark room. "Ahh so your awake." Said a vaguely familiar
voice. "Welcome to Terrok Nor Commander Chakotay."
Terrok Nor? What the hell had happened? All
Chakotay could think of at that moment in time was that he had a pounding
headache and it felt like his brain had been stuffed with cotton. "What?
Who?"
"You're in the Alternate Universe now.
On the space station Terrok Nor. Although you probably know it as Deep Space
Nine."
Deep Space Nine? The Alternate Universe? It
was all beginning to make sense now. "O`Brian?"
"I'm usually called Smiley around
here...but yeah." Smiley stepped into the light and the familiar face swam
into Chakotay's vision.
"Why did you kidnap me? Where's
Tom?" Chakotay rubbed the side of his neck unconsciously, and sighed.
"We didn't kidnap you Chakotay, we need
your help." Smiley stood up and pointed towards the door leading towards
the dimly lit corridor. "I promise, we'll send you back as soon as this is
all over."
"And just what is it I'm supposed to be
helping you with here?" Chakotay asked with an impatient tone, ignoring
for the moment that Smiley hadn't mentioned anything about Tom.
"We think the Intendant's got one of
your people working for her. And we need your help to track he...or she down
before they do anything to jeopardize our plans here." Smiley explained.
So, Tom wasn't with the Rebels...he was
working with the Intendant. And, for some sickening reason, Chakotay found
himself actually able to believe it was possible. Vowing to personally kill Tom
himself when he got his hands on him, Chakotay followed Smiley out the door and
into the bustling corridors of Terrok Nor.
***********************************************************************
Chakotay leaned back in his chair rubbing his
eyes with the heels of his hands. He'd been in here for hours, just like he had
been every day since his arrival on Terrok Nor. He was scanning through the
files and security vids trying to catch sight of their suspected spy...none
other than Tom Paris. But even Chakotay was beginning to think that they'd been
wrong, that Tom Paris wasn't the spy. Who ever it was he or she should have
been here by now. And not a single person matching Tom's description had
boarded the station in over a week. Or if they had they'd somehow evaded every
security cam and the checks everyone received when they arrived on the station.
The doors to the tiny office opened.
"Here are today's logs." Smiley said dropping the two padds on the
desk. "We got pictures of all of them today."
With still pictures it only took Chakotay a
matter of minutes to flip through the arrivals. Not one even close.
"Nope." He sighed shaking his head.
"She can't wait much longer."
Smiley said. "Maybe tomorrow."
Chakotay was about to reply when the comm
beeped. Smiley turned the monitor and flipped it to receive.
"Sir we've got one more..." The man
continued speaking but Chakotay didn't hear anything after that. There,
standing behind the tech was Tom Paris, the same self-assured look about him
that Chakotay always expected to see... The look, that for some reason always
seemed to be able to infuriate him as well. Except, it almost seemed as if Tom
was different somehow, the attitude he was projecting forced and unnatural.
Smiley looked towards Chakotay, who only nodded
slightly, slightly shocked and hurt. It was one thing to think the man was a
traitor...it was quite another to be convinced of that fact. "Take him to
briefing room six."
"Six sir?" The tech questioned
surprise evident on his face.
"Six." Smiley confirmed.
