Summary: In the 1920's the Alger phenomena of the dime-novel had mated with the `school days' books and spawned a much larger industry of contract-written `boys adventure' series. These came in various `flavors' ( ranch boys, railroad boys etc ) but only so far as there are varieties of vanilla. The heroes were always whiter than mayonnaise, the villains were never more then conventionally villainous, violence was minimal, and twenty-some short chapters would see evil thwarted and progressive American capitalism upheld.
