What a Joke!
By Leana
"You're sticking it in the wrong hole!"
Sam stopped dead in her tracks, had she really just heard that? She knew the rumours that were going around the base about Jack and Daniel, but she really hadn't thought they were true, just lots of people assuming the worst as soon as two men were more than vaguely friendly with each other, it was actually
surprising how pathetic some people could be, of course, most people just passed on the rumours because they thought it was so silly, but there were a few, even in the SGC, that were extremely homophobic and it could cause trouble for the two men if they didn't stop them soon. Sam slowly started towards the door again when she heard Daniel continue,
"You really should defrost that first, a frozen chicken will take a lot longer to cook than the stuffing will, and the potatoes shouldn't be in yet either, well, actually they should all have been in hours ago but you know best!"
Sam couldn't believe the wave of relief that washed through her at that, she knocked on the door and heard Daniel going on at Jack as he came to answer it,
"You know, we should just get take out, at least I'll know the guests will live for a while longer, your cooking will probably kill them."
Daniel opened the door and smiled when he saw Sam, it was one of those rare smiles of his that warmed you all over,
"Hi Sam, you're just in time to come with me and choose take out, Jack managed to completely kill any idea of roast chicken, Oh, you bought red wine, we have to get Chinese then, they do this great beef dish, just put it on the table, Jack can put it in the decanter while we get the food."
He took the bottle off her and put it on the side, Sam would have been dumbfounded by his behaviour but she knew Daniel too well for that now, he shouted goodbye to Jack and pushed her through the door back towards her car.
"So, you coming to the hockey game tomorrow?"
Daniel asked her quietly, she looked up in shock, she had forgotten about the game, how on earth could she have forgotten it? It wasn't like Jack had shut up about it all month,
"Uh, yeah, uh, I don't have a hockey stick!"
Daniel grinned at her,
"You cant get out of it that easily you know, Jack has about a dozen spare ones in the basement, and you know if he didn't he would find you one anyway."
Sam looked a little uneasy,
"You know I have no idea how to play either, don't you?"
Daniel asked her.
"Really? I thought spending all that time around the Colonel you would be a pro."
Daniel laughed,
"Not even nearly, I've only ever played twice, and both of those were one on one with Jack, he's still trying to teach me, he says I'm to violent for him."
Sam stared at him in astonishment,
"To violent?"
If anything, Sam had thought Daniel wouldn't be competitive enough for Jack; he was always pushing for the archaeologist to be more assertive in the field.
"Yeah, seam's you aren't supposed to hit people like that, don't know why, I've seen them do it on the telly, but Jack said it was illegal, and it hurt to much, he had ice on it all night."
By then Daniel had a purely wicked look on his face and his eyes were shining with memories, Sam wondered what those memories were! They finally reached the take away and were soon on their way home again, they had been discussing the upcoming game and Daniel suddenly smiled,
"Hey, I heard a funny one the other day, Jack was watching a match on the telly and one of the presenters told them he had heard a joke but he wasn't sure he could say it over the air, they all got on to him about it and loads of people called in and asked to hear it so he finally gave in, it does make you wonder if the joke was really worth all the trouble though, I mean it wasn't that good really, a little risqué for day time TV but not that funny really."
Sam looked over at him and asked,
"Daniel, if you don't tell me the joke I don't know if it was worth it do I?"
He looked at her for a moment then shook his head and grinned,
"Of course not, right, 'Two women were at a bar. One looked at the other and said, "You know, eighty percent of all men think the best way to end a fight is to make love."
"Well," said the other woman, "that will certainly revolutionize the game of hockey!'"
Sam looked at him, a slight smile on her lips and said,
"What a joke!"
Daniel's smile grew,
"Yeah, I thought so, though I bet they would get a lot more viewers if they went with the idea!"
Sam laughed with him as he turned into Jack's drive,
"Yeah, I bet they would at that, I don't suppose Jack would be pleased though."
Daniel looked at her and his smile grew sly, he knew she was fishing for information that she couldn't, and wouldn't, come straight out and ask.
"You might be surprised Sam, and Jack's the one who likes fishing."
Sam's jaw dropped, at the hint and the blatant reference to her attempts to gather information, she had been in the military so long it was a shock to have someone mention it, but an even bigger shock to think that the rumours might be true, she pulled herself together and followed Daniel as he opened the door, a
satisfied smirk across his face, he had finally stunned Sam speechless!
The end
Hope you liked it.
