Disclaimer: Y'all know the drill. They're Paramount's toys, I'm just playing with them. I promise to put them back in only slightly battered condition. However, the story/poem belongs to three people: Me, myself, and I. No one's making one red cent off of this. The song "If Tomorrow Never Comes" belongs to Garth Brooks.
Note to list: Guys, this is one of my first K/S pieces and I don't know if it's that good or not. You be the judges.
Codes: Jim Kirk/Spock

It has always been a challenge.....getting
through his defenses...his reasons....his logic.
I love him beyond reason...beyond logic...
beyond *life.* Every time I look at him,
I can see the forbidden love surface deep
within those bottomless eyes........
but the years of control weren't going to leave without a fight...
Then again, I'm hardly one to back down from a challenge.....
The door hisses open and a silent shadow enters
the room. The speaker has fallen into an exhausted sleep.
The shadow kneels by his side.....his eyes never leaving his face.
How can I us suffer like this? How by *any* logic,
Vulcan *or* human, can I deny the truth? I love him.
It is as simple as that. I know he loves me, but how
can he? Time after time, I push him away; but yet
he continues to love me as deeply as before.
The shadow feels very troubled. He longs to gather his
human into his arms...but something holds him back..
Why am I afraid? I know that he would not leave me
for his mistress, for we serve the same one.
*Every time that you've let someone in, that person
never loved you in return.*
Tomorrow, he decides, Tomorrow I will tell him.
To his surprise, he remembers an ancient human song:
"If tomorrow never comes, will he know how much you
loved him? Did you try in every way to show him every day
that he's your only one?"
Fate can be very cruel, he thinks.
I won't throw this chance away.
He tenderly bends down and kisses his beloved.
The beloved one wakes up to a long-desired sensation...
those heated lips pressed so firmly on his.
He gathers his friend into his arms.
Hazel eyes shyly meet obsidian.
In one voice they speak.
"I love you."
The Enterprise continues on her majestic voyage
with no more sorrow on board.
