Surprises, The Morning After

Fox noticed the way Alex was frowning as he hung up the phone. Laying his paper aside, he asked, concerned.
"What's wrong?"
"He lied."
"I beg your pardon?" Fox stared at the younger man, clearly confused.
"Walter." Alex replied. "He lied, he did forget after all."
Drawing a deep breath, Fox framed the question more carefully this time.
"Okay Alex, what are you talking about?"
"That was the florist on the phone." Alex said. "She was calling to make sure that the roses were delivered last night. She was worried because they don't usually fill orders like that at the very last moment. They normally need the order placed at least a day before. She just wanted to make sure that there had not been any problems."
Fox could hear the hurt in Alex's voice. Pushing his chair back from the kitchen table, he walked over to where his lover was standing. Placing a hand lightly on his back. Fox replied.
"That doesn't mean anything Alex. Maybe Walter decided to send the roses at the last minute, in addition to the meal at the restaurant. A last minute..."
The phone's ring cut his words off and Fox reached over to pick up the receiver.
"Hello, yes this is Walter Skinner's residence, may I ask who's speaking? Garino's? No, I'm sorry, he's not here right now. Ah, the bill for the cake is separate you say. Last minute order...yes I'm sure he appreciates you being able to fit us in at the last minute. Yes, I will be sure and tell him. No, of course not, thank you."
Fox hung the phone up, a grim expression on his face.
"That was owner of Garino's. He was calling because it seemed that there was a mix up with the bill. The cost of the cake was separate because it had to be delivered from an all night bakery. They are going to have to send Walter the bill separately. He then went on to say that normally they did not have these kinds of mix ups but then they don't usually supply cakes for last minute
bookings. That's why it had to be brought in from outside their restaurant. It's just that Walter is such a good customer that this time they made an exception. He hoped that there wouldn't be any inconvenience."
"You are right Alex...he did lie."
Alex sighed and shook his head. "I thought so, the look on his face when you told him you were giving me my birthday treat..."
Fox nodded, he had seen the look as well but he had been so distracted by a naked chocolate smeared Alex that he really had not thought anything about it at the time.
"Don't let it upset you sweetheart." He said soothingly. Damn but he hated seeing Alex hurt like this. "You know how busy Walter's been lately. All those damn meetings with Kersh. I'm sure that he would have remembered otherwise."
"I know Fox." Alex replied. "It's not that he forgot my birthday that's got me so upset. It's the fact that he lied about it. After all, isn't he always the one telling us that the most important thing in a relationship is honesty. I wouldn't have been angry with him. I know how hard he's been working lately."
"Hmm, I agree." Fox replied. "Walter is always going on about openness and truthfulness, and then he does something like this. Well I think it's time that he was taught a little something about openness and being truthful."
Alex's eyes widened as he gazed at his partner with alarm. "What are you going to do Fox?"
"Nothing that he doesn't deserve Alex." Fox replied, is voice firm. "But we can't let him think that he can lie to us like this and get away with it either."
Fox's tone of voice was enough to make Alex gulp and thank goodness that he was not the one standing in Walter's shoes tonight.
*~*~*~*
"I'm home!" Walter called out as he closed the front door behind him. Taking his keys and cell phone from his coat pockets, he placed them carefully on the sideboard under the window.
After doing that, he walked over to the couch where both his lovers were waiting for him. Holding his arms out, Walter drew them both up in a hug.
"Hi guys, what's for dinner tonight? I'm starving."
"I thought we might order some pizza and ribs tonight." Fox replied. "On account that I'm going to be a little too busy to cook."
"Oh really?" Walter replied. "Busy doing what?"
"Spanking your butt."
The look on Walter's face was priceless, Fox and Alex both had to bite down on grins. Poor Walter, but then they both realized that their lover deserved everything that he was going to get.
"Spanking my...what did I do?" Walter asked, completely confused now. He looked from one to the other. "Fox, Alex, what's this all about?"
"The florist called earlier on." Alex began calmly. "She just wanted to make sure that the roses were delivered safely. Those last minute orders can sometimes go astray. Especially when the store was just about to close when the phone call came in making an urgent order."
Walter opened his mouth to reply when he saw the look on Alex's face, then stopped.
"Oh, and the owner of Garino's called as well." Fox added. Walter visibly winced. Fox relayed the message about the cake his arms folded over his chest as he spoke.
Walter drew a deep breath, oh yeah, he was well and truly caught.
"Well, what have you to say for yourself?" Fox asked.
Walter looked at both of his lovers, shamefaced, before finally admitting. "Yeah Fox, you're right. I did lie to you about Alex's birthday. I completely forgot. Things have been so damn hectic at work lately and Kersh has really been riding my ass over the Drysdale case. The truth is, it had totally slipped my mind. I shouldn't have tried to deceive either of of you. You both deserve better than that."
He turned to face Alex, adding. "I'm sorry Lexi, I never meant to hurt you like this. You know how much I love you."
"Yes Walter I do know." Alex replied softly. "It's okay, it turned out to be a wonderful surprise anyway." With that, he stepped forward and into Walter's arms, hugging the bigger man tightly. He felt Walter's lips brush over the top of his dark hair.
Then Fox felt his own arm grabbed and he too found himself encircled in the warmth of a group embrace.
After a few moments, Fox gently disentangled himself.
"We forgive you Walter." He told the older man gently. Alex nodded. "Of course we do." He added. "And it was a wonderful birthday after all."
"So I'm forgiven then?" Walter asked, smiling.
"Of course sweetheart, right after we do one more thing." Fox replied.
Walter felt the heat creep up into his face. "Oh yeah, that's right." He muttered.
"It's only fair Walter." Alex said. "If it had been one of us, you know how you feel about the importance of honesty in a relationship."
Walter smiled at him. "I know, I know. I wouldn't have hesitated warming your butts if it had been either of you."
"Come on sweetheart, let's get this over with." Fox said as he gently led Walter over towards the couch.
Walter swallowed nervously as he felt his trouser pulled down and he was tipped over Fox's knees.
Even though he had been expecting the first swat, it was still a shock when it landed.
Fox wasted no time in turning his lover's well shaped ass a uniform shade of pink. His hand covering the upturned butt.
Walter gasped, gritting his teeth against the sharp spanks, then as quickly he had been turned over Fox's knees-he found himself upright and sitting on the couch once more.
"Christ Fox. Where did you learn to swing like that?" he complained, one hand creeping behind him to rub the sting out of his behind.
"Oh, an expert." Fox replied nonchalantly. "You, actually."
Walter grinned at that. "Nice to know I have managed to teach you both something."
"Hmm, I don't know." Alex said as he leaned over to kiss Walter. "There's still a few things you could teach us."
Walter's grin widened. "And that would be?"
"We'll show you." Fox said standing up to pull Walter to his feet. "Upstairs in bed."
With a laugh, Walter chased both his lovers upstairs, all thoughts of dinner forgotten. After all, there more important things beside food.
