GEORGE STRONACH

GEORGE STRONACH b. ca. 1767 in Scotland (possibly in Barony Par., Glasgow) - came to Nova Scotia about 1784; d. in March 1847 at over 80 years of age. He married (1) MARY (POLLY) FALES d/o Benjamin; d. Dec 1829; married (2) ELIZABETH MERRITT, nee O'Connor; b. ca. 1800 in Yarmouth County, NS; d. 15 May 1868, age 68 years.

Their children (not necessarily in order of birth) first marriage:

1. RACHEL STRONACH; died after 1810, but before 1814; m. OLDHAM GATES JR. s/o Oldham; b. ca. 1765; d. 23 Jun 1850, age 85 years. (He married (2) Eleanor Slocum.)

2. (REV.) EBENEZER STRONACH; b. 4 Oct 1792; d. 23 Nov 1858, age 66 years; m. AMY RANDALL, d/o David; b. 15 Sep 1789; d. 3 Jul 1862, age 72 years.

3. SARAH STRONACH; b. ca. 1795; d. 22 Jan 1865, age 70 years; m. WILLIAM DOWNEY JR s/o William; b. 2 Jun 1794; d. 24 Oct 1866. He m. (2) 28 Apr 1865, Sophia Arminison; m. (3) 17 Aug 1865, Achsah Tupper.

4. WILLIAM STRONACH; m. HEPZIBAH GATES d/o Jonas; b. ca. 1799; d. 23 Jul 1877, age 78 years. She m. (2) Ephraim Downey.

5. ELIZABETH STRONACH; m. LUTHER BAKER s/o John; b. ca. 1795; d. 27 Dec 1845, age 50 years.

6. MARGARET STRONACH; m. WILLIAM COCHRAN; b. ca. 1798; d. 10 Jun 1868, age 72 years. This family is listed in the 1838 census as having 5 females and 1 male. In the 1851 Census, William Cochran is living alone. No further records on this family.

7. NELSON STRONACH; b. Jul 1805; d. 21 Feb 1878, age 72 years, 7 months; m. MARGARET FALES d/o Daniel; b. 17 Jan 1806. She was 85 on the 1891 census; no record of her death has been found.

8. REIS STRONACH (Esq.); b. 12 Jun 1808; d. 17 Aug 1868, age 60 years; m. MARY REAGH d/o John; b. 20 Jul 1813. She m. (2) 12 Jun 1872 John McKeown. In the 1891 census she was 78 and widowed; no death record forz her has been found.

9. (REV.) ABRAHAM STRONACH; b. ca. 1812; d. 13 Jul 1873, age 61 years; m. (1) SUSAN REAGH d/o John; b 6 Aug 1809; d. 27 Dec 1856, age 56 years. (NOTE: There is an obvious discrepancy here in the date of death and her age, but no futher records have been found to prove either the death date or her age at death.) He m. (2) 25 Nov 1870 ELIZABETH (BETSY) MARCHANT d/o William; b. ca. 1823; d. 24 Dec 1881, age 58 years.

10. GEORGE STRONACH; b. ca. 1837; d. 1 Jul 1905, age 68 years; m. 23 Nov 1869, SUSAN E. BENT d/o Asaph; b. ca. 1848, d. 11 Jun 1898, age 50 years.

11. THOMAS ANDREW STRONACH; m. (1) 3 Apr 1858, JANE C. MEEK, widow of William Meek, d/o William Smith, Falmouth, NS. He m. (2) 5 Aug 1866 in Boston, Mass., ELIZA DONALD, of New Brunswick. (NOTE: A letter in the possession of J.M. Stronach, written by Thomas Stronach to his brother George, in the year 1869, indicates that Thomas was living in Chicago, Ill. and was expecting his brother to visit. There is no further record.)

12. ELIZABETH STRONACH; b. May 1847. A note attached to the probate records at the Annapolis County Courthouse, indicates that this child was born about two months following her father's death. No further record has been found to determine whether or not she attained adulthood.
